„Sprechkontakt mit Müggelturm“ setzt sich mit der deutschen Tradition der Aussichtstürme auseinander die sich in Deutschland am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts entwickelte.
Damals wurden zwei Türme im Südosten von Berlin konstruiert: der Müggelturm und der Turm von Woltersdorf, welche sich in zehn Kilometem Entfernung voneinander befinden. Beide liegen am Waldrand. Die Türme wurden 1961 rekonstruiert nachdem sie beide bei einem Brand zerstört wurden. Der Müggelturm, welcher sich mehr in Stadtnähe befindet, ist in modernem Stil gebaut worden klar und licht, in typischer DDR-Architektur.
Der Woltersdorfer Turm errinnert eher an eine andere deutsche Stimmung, es ist ein Turm aus Holz, dunkel und vollgestellt. Er liegt weiter zurückgezogen im Woltersdorfer Wald. Während das Innere des Müggelturms bis heute leer blieb, beherbergt der Woltersdorfer Turm seit 1990 eine Ausstellung mit dem Titel „Als Woltersdorf noch Hollywood war“.
Von der Zeit etwas abgenutzt befindet sich diese letzte Ruhestätte immer noch dort und schildert mittels verwaschener Bilder und staubiger Vitrinen die Epoche des Kinos der Zwanziger Jahre in Woltersdorf. Woltersdorf erfreute sich damals eines enormen wirtschaftlichen Aufschwungs, dank seiner Kinoindustrie und dem Anreiz der Natur in unmittelbarer Nähe zur Stadt (Wochenendausflügler).
2005 machte sich eine Gruppe von Wissenschaftlern die geringe Entfernung beider Türme zueinander zu Nutze um ein Experiment durchzuführen: sie stellten durch Licht eine Verbindung zwischen ihnen her : „Lichtsprechen“. Mithilfe von Infrarotübertragungen von einer Turmspitze zur anderen schafften sie es eine Funkverbindung herzustellen: „Sprechkontakt mit Müggelturm“. Für ein paar Minuten kommunizierten die Türme miteinander.
Die Installation beruft sich auf diese reale Fakten und spiegelt die Verbindung wieder.
Anhand der Präsentation im Müggelturm kann der Besucher mit jedem weiteren Schritt zur Aussichtsplattform eine Bildserie des Woltersdorfer Turms entdecken. Er erhält eine Umgebungskarte, die ihm den Weg zum Aussichtsturm Woltersdorf beschreibt. Die Route führt durch den Wald am Seeufer entlang. Dem Besucher offenbart sich das Innere des Turms. Auf der Aussichtsplattform des Woltersdorfer Turms findet er ein Fernrohr vor das den Müggelturm fixiert.

"Sprechkontakt mit Müggelturm" (Contact parlé établi avec la Müggelturm) s’intéresse à la tradition allemande des tours d’observation se développant en Allemagne à la fin du XIXe siècle. Deux tours sont alors construites à l’est de Berlin, à 10 Km de distance l’une de l’autre en bordure de la forêt: la Müggelturm et la tour de Woltersdorf.
La même année, en 1961, les deux tours sont reconstruites après avoir été toutes deux détruites par les flammes. L’une, la Müggelturm, est plus proche de la ville et adopte un style moderniste: clair, épuré, typiquement DDR. L’autre évoque une atmosphère allemande différente: plus retirée dans la forêt, à Woltersdorf, c’est une tour en bois, sombre et chargée.
L’intérieur de la Müggelturm restera vide jusqu’à aujourd’hui tandis qu’à partir de 1990, la tour de Woltersdorf se voit dotée d’une exposition intitulée "Als Woltersdorf noch Hollywood war". Détériorée par le temps, cette dernière demeure encore là aujourd’hui, retraçant au travers de ses images délavées et de ses vitrines poussiéreuses l’époque du cinéma des années 20 tourné à Woltersdorf. La ville jouissait alors d’un plein essor économique grâce à son industrie cinématographique.
En 2005, un groupe de scientifiques profite de l’éloignement minime des deux tours pour se livrer à une étrange expérience: ils tentent d’établir la connexion entre les deux tours par le biais de "Lichtsprechen" (Lumières parlantes). Grâce à des transmissions infrarouges d’un sommet à l’autre, ils réussissent à mettre en place une connexion radio : "Sprechkontakt mit Müggelturm".
La connexion est établie, le temps de quelques minutes, les deux tours sont entrées en communication.
"Sprechkontakt mit Müggelturm" s’appuie sur ces faits réels et rejoue cette connexion.
Le projet débute ainsi dans la Müggelturm où le visiteur est amené à y découvrir, au fur et à mesure de son ascension une série d’images prises à l’intérieur de l’autre tour. Il reçoit une carte des environs, lui indiquant le chemin jusqu’à cette dernière. La marche se situe en pleine nature, entre forêt et bords de lac. Ceux qui arriveront quelques heures plus tard à Woltersdorf pourront alors visiter l’intérieur de sa tour. À son sommet, ils découvriront une longue-vue pointant vers l’horizon et bloquée en direction de la Müggelturm.

"Sprechtkontakt mit Müggelturm" (Spoken connection with the Müggel tower) is dealing with the German tradition of observation towers, tourist architectures built on little hills and allowing people to watch the landscape from a higher point. This tradition was expanding in Germany by the end of the 19th century. At this time, two towers were built on the Berlin east side forest border, separated by 10 km distance: The Müggelturm and the Woltersdorfturm.
After both towers burned down in 1961, they were rebuilt later in the same year. The first one, the Müggelturm is closer to the city and has a modernist style: light, glass, geometric, typically DDR. The second one reminds you of a different German atmosphere, the Grimm’s fairy tales one: secluded in the forest, in Woltersdorf, it’s a wooden tower, dark and austere.
The Müggelturm was going to stay empty and uncluttered until today, while in the nineties a show entitled "Als Woltersdorf noch Hollywood war" (When Woltersdorf was still Hollywood) was put on in the Woltersdorfturm. Nowadays, damaged by time, the show still remains in the tower, recalling through faded pictures and dusty showcases the cinema of the twenties shot in Woltersdorf. At that time, the city was enjoying an economic boom thanks to the cinema industry based there.
In 2005, a scientific group was taking advantage of the small distance separating the two towers in order to carry out a strange experiment: they tried to create a connexion between the towers threw "Lichtsprechen" (Speaking lights). Thanks to infrared transmissions from one top to the other, they managed to install a radio connection: "Sprechkontakt mit Müggelturm".
The connection was established. During a few minutes, the towers could communicate.
The project "Sprechkontakt mit Müggelturm" starts thus in the first tower, the Müggel one where the visitor can discover, while going up the stairs, a serial of pictures taken inside the other tower, the Woltersdorf one. He receives a map of the surroundings indicating how to get there. The walk is in the nature, threw the woods and next to the lakes. The visitors who will arrive a few hours later in Woltersdorf will be able to visit its tower. On the top of it, a telescope is blocked in direction of the Müggel tower.
